We had the best time on our trip to Mackinac Island! The kids did really great in the car and we made it there and back without any issues! We had quite a few potty breaks, some in gas stations, some just on the side of the road. One while over looking Lake Michigan by the beach :)
We left Thursday and drove to 8 hours to Escanaba, MI for the night. The hotel we stayed at had a pool with a slide that I was sure Henry would love, but it was quite larger than expected when we got in there to try it out. I made Dan go down to try it out, and he made quite the splash! (ba dum dum) On our way, we also made a pit stop at Seguin's Cheese for curds, shirts, and fun hat modeling!
This picture of Nora makes me laugh every time! She looks so appalled.
We got to the Island early Friday afternoon, met Auntie Dawn, checked into our bed and breakfast, unpacked and set off to explore. Gma Barb and crew were arriving in about 20 minutes, so we headed to the ferry docks to wait for them. After they got checked in to their hotel, we went downtown for pizza and ice cream! yum and yum.
Saturday we woke up and did our bike ride around the Island. It was just as beautiful and fun as I remembered! When we were finished, we headed back to our room for naps with a quick pit stop for a burger being grilled on the lawn of the Harbour Inn. We ate on our porch and called it an afternoon. That night we went back to Mission Point for welcome cocktails and decided the atmosphere wasn't super kid friendly, so back downtown we went with Laura and Wesley. Burgers, fudge, and more ice cream!
Close enough :)
Peek Nora!
Sunday Morning to the top of Fort Mackinac was Dan's request. Happy Father's Day! Up, up, up we went to the top and of course Henry had to potty... twice. After Dan did a little exploring and I did a little whining, we were back on our way down and met up with Gma B, Jenna, Josh, Laura and Wesley for lunch at the Pink Pony. Tasty! We walked around to find our various souvenirs and after a few melt downs, decided it would be best to head back for nap time since the wedding was that evening. The wedding was beautiful and we had tons of fun at the reception. Congrats to Marc and Ellie!
Henry wedgie! Bah ha!
Monday was go time. :( We got ready, checked out and headed to the docks to meet Gma B and crew. It was raining, so it was a good day to be leaving. Henry was excited to ride the ferry again but couldn't stop asking where Michigan was. We got back to Mackinaw City, loaded up the car, and were on our way. We stopped at Wildwood pasties for a Dan's first pasty (he approved) and away we went. We ran into a huge rainstorm in Escanaba, so we pulled off to feed Nora and wait out the rain. It ended up flooding out parts of the highway but people barreled right on through. Once we made it past Main Street, you couldn't hardly tell there was more than a sprinkle. The kids were awesome in the car on the way home too, and ended up driving the whole way home! Sis got a little fussy from Dubuque on, but who can blame a girl, let's just get there already!
Mr. Daddy (as Henry has been so keen on calling him lately) says we can go back in five years and I am already counting down the days! Only 1810 more........
